Silk pillowcases are much gentler on your skin and hair compared to traditional pillowcases. Traditional pillowcases tug on your skin and hair throughout the night, thus causing wrinkles, skin inflammation and bed head.
Silk is a natural fabric and is hence believed to be more compatible with our skin and hair. Silk is also naturally hypoallergenic, making it perfect for people with sensitive skin and allergy sufferers. Satin while smoother than traditional pillowcases, is a synthetic weave and do not have the benefits associated with silk being a natural fibre.
Not all silk pillowcases are created equally. Our silk pillowcases are made of the highest quality mulberry silk, without toxic dyes, and have been specially made to be extra smooth, thick, durable, and shiny.
Watch out for toxic dyes and false claims of momme!
Mommes(mm) is a unit indicating the weight of the silk and is used to measure the quality of silk fabrics. The higher the momme, the higher the quality, which also means that the silk is more lustrous and lasts longer.
Our 22mm silk pillowcases are the ideal combination of durability, depth, drape and comfort, for a luxurious sleep.
While thread count is not as important in silk products as it is for cotton, it is still a factor that should be taken into consideration when purchasing silk. For silk products with the same momme weight, the one with higher thread count is usually considered to be better.
High quality 22mm silk normally has a thread count of around 600, while our 22mm silk has a thread count of 900. This means that our silk pillowcases are a truly premium and top-end product.
Want to buy a silk pillowcase but afraid that it might be troublesome to care for? All our silk pillowcases are made using high-grade silk and as such are more durable and CAN be washed in a washing machine! However, silk is still a delicate material and caring for it will help it last longer and care for you longer.
Simple care instructions to follow
1) Flip your silk pillowcase inside out and place in a delicates laundry bag.
2) Put your silk pillowcase into the washing machine and wash on a gentle cycle with water temperature not exceeding 30degreecelsius.
3) Use a pH neutral detergent, or a silk safe detergent.
4) After washing, take your silk pillowcase and dry it out of direct sunlight.
